Testimonials

I met Tara Stiles in the Spring of 2000, when I moved to California to open my Chiropractic clinic. She made such a profound impact on me after beginning her tai chi class, I was enthused to attend one of her tai chi/yoga retreats in Bodega Bay. We connected on so many levels. I've experienced many styles of yoga instruction over the years and Tara's teaching method surpasses all of them!! Her ability to personalize her instruction to fit each individual in her class is a gift that can only come with decades of experience. As an Upper Cervical Chiropractor, it is important to me to refer my patients to an instructor who is in tune with the level of health/fitness of her student and is willing to meet him/her at that level. Everyone I've referred to Tara has "sung her praises." Connecting with her students and customizing her instruction are priorities for Tara, which is hard to find at our local gyms and yoga centers where one tends to get lost in the crowd. I encourage everyone to experience Tara's wonderful healing energy and loving attention. Once you do you'll want to go back for more!!

Tara’s yoga classes are truly special. I often rush into class stressed out and tired after work. But by the time I leave I am relaxed and exhilarated. What her classes offer that other classes do not, is a unique combination of stretching and strengthening in a calming spiritual setting. I have taken Tara’s classes for many years and I have gone to many of her retreats. I also love the retreats because they are always in beautiful locations, the food and the people are great, and I come away with a calmness and serenity that lasts for days.

I have given numerous friends gift certificates for classes and massage with Tara and it’s always a pleasure for me hearing from them how much they also have enjoyed her skills and her and loving presence. Tara has been a trustworthy guide for my physical health and spiritual growth for many years. I have taken many many classes with her and really appreciate her supportive, nurturing style of teaching. I even met my husband at one of her wonderful weekend retreats. Spending time with her is a real gift to myself.

Tara is one of those transformative people who is a delight to have as a spiritual teacher and friend. Most know her for her Tai Chi, yoga and meditation teachings, but few know she has given golf advice. At one of our Phoenix Rising sessions, she asked if I there were any areas of my life where I needed help. Being a rather simple person, I replied that the most disturbing issue in my life was missing short, easy putts. Though Tara is not a golfer, she understood this physical/mental issue and gave me the guidance to ground my feet and connect with the Earth better. After that, my putting improved.

I heartily recommend Tara as a teacher of Yoga, Tai Chi, Chair Exercise, Chi Gong, and one-on-one sessions of all of the above, and more. As well as the many different types of retreats she does. I have known Tara for over 20 years and have participated in most of the above. Last fall I was blessed by attending my 36th "Tara Retreat" which was held at a wonderful place near Point Reyes, called Commonweal. We stayed in beautiful houses located under huge, old trees on a bluff overlooking the ocean. Over the years I have met wonderful people with different backgrounds and have continued connections with many fellow class mates and retreat participants. Many of these people have become my closest friends. For many years my body has benefitted from Tara's excellent massage techniques. Most recently, under the magnificent Fig tree tucked away in her back yard. Her fingers seem to know just which muscle needs the attention the most. Tara is a teacher of much more than the above. Her spontaneity, energy, and love of Nature and the whole Earth is an inspiration to me and to many, many others. Over the years she has shown me how to try things I might not have done on my own.

It's amazing what influence one person can have! For me, my classes and sessions with Tara mark a deep fundamental shift in my way of walking in the world. Now my life moves from my center, is so much more fluid and flexible. Disturbances arising from my past have dissipated or integrated through the movements in class, through the meditations, through the one-on-one sessions and retreats. Now teaching QiGong (chi Kung) myself in the prisons, I am so very grateful for the seeds she has planted and watered in me over these many years.

As a Chi Kung student with Tara for 5½ years, I’ve learned that my physical, mental and spiritual beings are so intertwined that not one of them can be solely focused upon as I walk the path toward overall health. Tara has played a major part in my life—teacher, friend and inspiration. From making subtle suggestions to telling me exactly how things are, she does so in a caring and gentle manner. Every time I go to a retreat or attend class or participate in a SoulCollage Circle, I see first-hand how many lives she touches and how she brings out the “light” in people.

Attending Tara's Yoga and Tai Chi classes brings me to a place that I just cannot seem to get to/achieve on my own, a calmness that I find nourishing and so necessary each week. When I enter the classroom, my body, mind and spirit (energy if you will) feels "all a whirligig"! When I leave, I'm collected, centered and connected; I'm in touch with the earth and my soul.

I’ve been working with Tara for many years in the Thursday yoga class. I have scoliosis, and Tara’s knowledge of the condition and ways to help me keep my back flexible have been invaluable to me. As I have become middle aged, I’ve learned the importance of being good to my body! Tara’s a great teacher: fun, accessible, and intuitive.

I had the very good fortune to have Tara Stiles as my first Yoga instructor about 20 yrs ago. She taught me the beginning postures and set the stage for me to experience the benefits of Yoga since that time. Having taught this wonderful art form for thirty years, she has the experience, skills and wisdom that you can trust...and you know that she has been studying and perfecting her knowledge to help you target your particular areas of need and healing…Take Yoga from someone who really knows it and like me, I think that you will be glad that you did.

Tara connects with her students emotionally. She is visually perceptive to body misalignments which reduce effectiveness of a particular movement. She knows how to explain and demonstrate each movement, so that one can follow it. Tara provides emotional support and unconditional acceptance of her students. She makes yoga, tai chi, and chi kung accessible and relevant. Tara is fun! She offers a variety of services to enhance our physical and emotional well being and our overall quality of life. Taking ongoing classes with Tara I've learned how to better take care of myself, and I've acquired a support team to do it with!

I have been in Tara’s yoga classes for about 10 years. When I began, my objective was simple: I wanted to gain the core body strength necessary to prevent me from falling as I aged. I have gained that strength and more. I now know how to breathe better, using breath for strength, calming, meditation and more. I have gained the strength to do a lot of yoga positions (asanas) that I would never have thought I could do. For instance I used to laugh at myself that I could never sit on the floor and place my chest on my upper thighs. I can do that now. Tara takes the time to show us how an asana helps with or prevents various postural issues. I believe that because of Tara’s teaching, my flexibility is outstanding for a 70-year-old woman and I can keep up with the class, which is made up of younger people. Over the last 10 years I have taken a few lessons from other yoga instructors and can make some comparisons. The most important aspect (to me) of Tara’s teaching is that she is careful to see that the whole class is doing an asana in way to prevent us from doing damage to our bodies. I always look forward to her class…Tara uses gentle humor and kindness. She is a natural teacher, explaining the value of yoga for our health and wellness. To further expand on yoga, Tara schedules wonderful weekend yoga retreats. We have done tai chi and chi kung on the beach watching the ocean while a seal watched us from the water. The vegetarian food provided was as tasty as it was good for us. We were able to relax in quiet times and go for hikes on the beach or the surrounding hills. In summary, Tara’s classes are not just teaching they are wonderful experiences. I can’t recommend them highly enough.
